When I responded to the ad for Controller at Durvet, the listing described the duties of the position: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Billing, and Banking. There were other items that were discussed in my interviews like liability and health insurance, Human Resources, and the yearly audit.
But there’s one important piece that was never discussed that has become the most rewarding part of the position I took: DuraMom.
According to the Urban Dictionary, the definition of Mom is, “The woman who loves you unconditionally [from birth], the one who puts her kids before herself, and the one you can always count on above everyone else.”
As the self-proclaimed DuraMom of 42 DuraKids, I'm called upon to assist with a wide array of daily challenges: changing light bulbs in the Exit signs, climbing the ladder to the roof to do inspections with the roofers and insurance company (appointments, please! This mom wears heels!), rounding up groundhogs, heading off fraudulent Visa charges, and even counseling employees on the imaginary Dura-couch when it comes to their personal lives. At a small company, we all wear a lot of hats!
My DuraFamily photo album looks a lot like yours…lots of personalities, traits, and styles...and some goofy faces thrown in just for fun. Together we're building one of the strongest and best cultures in the animal health industry and work together every day toward a common goal…to be the best supplier for our member distributors.
We recognize that every DuraKid has strengths and we put those strengths to work toward that goal (we wouldn’t put a roper on the back of a bull!) We bring our passion with us through the chute every morning and continually work to not only improve ourselves but to do so with integrity and humbleness.
Being helpful and appreciative is always at the top of our priority list when it comes to our family values, and most of all, work hard and have fun…just like we do at home.
I’ve never been a part of such a unique and awesome family of co-workers. Over the course of 15 years at Durvet, there have been a lot of foster DuraKids who have come and gone. And with each year our flock flies stronger and more efficient. We truly are a DuraFamily and I'm proud to call each and every one of these folks my DuraKid!
P.S. Don’t forget to call your mom.
